Do You Need A Card Or A Box?
This product splits into two builds at two very different prices and the title names both. A printed card costs cents while a box costs dollars so the choice sets your unit price before anything else does.
| Question | Printed earring card | Earring box |
|---|---|---|
| Unit price | The bottom of our range, in cents | Top of our range, in dollars |
| Size | 1.5 x 2 in up to 2 x 3.5 in | 64 x 64 x 25 mm published internal |
| Stock | 300 to 400 GSM coated or uncoated board | Rigid greyboard, SBS carton, velvet, leatherette |
| Holds the pair by | Two punched holes 18 to 22 mm apart | Foam pad with slits, or hook bar |
| Retail display | A hang hole seats it on a peg | Needs a shelf or counter |
| Full CMYK on both faces | Print on paper, foil on velvet |
Most brands buy the card because it moves volume through a market stall, an online order and a boutique peg wall at one price. Gold, diamond and bridal earrings sell out of a box rather than off a card.
How Do You Size A Box For A Drop Earring?
Internal height is measured from the hook tip down to the lowest point of the drop. Measuring from the stone is where most first orders go wrong. A chandelier earring at 45 mm fits a 25 mm deep box only by lying at an angle.
Our published internal reference for a stud or a small hoop is 64 x 64 x 25 mm. That 2.5 inch square footprint is the figure the trade works from on a stud carton. Drops take 3 x 3 x 1.5 in instead, which gives 38 mm of clear height inside the box. Wall thickness then moves both figures inward because rigid board takes three to six millimeters out of every internal dimension. Folding carton board takes one to three millimeters out of the same measurement.
| Earring style | What sets the internal height | The build it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Stud | Post backing fitted, never the stone alone | 64 x 64 x 25 mm, slit pad |
| Small hoop | Outside diameter of the hoop itself | 64 x 64 x 25 mm, slit pad |
| Short drop | Hook tip down to the lowest point | 64 x 64 x 25 mm, hook bar |
| Chandelier | Hook tip down to the lowest bead | 3 x 3 x 1.5 in, hook bar |
A butterfly back adds height that no product photograph on your own site ever shows.
What Stops An Earring Card Tearing At The Punch?
Stock runs 300 to 400 GSM coated or uncoated board so the post hole holds its shape. Anything lighter tears the moment a customer pulls the pair off the card in a store. The two holes sit 18 to 22 mm apart, which is the spacing a wearer expects between posts.
Earring cards run 1.5 x 2 in for studs and up to 2 x 3.5 in for a long drop. A hang hole punched at the top turns the card into retail display without a second product. That one hole is why a peg wall needs no stand while a counter still needs an earring card holder. We print jewelry cards for pendants and rings on the same board so a mixed line runs on one stock.
How Does Your Logo Reach Each Format?
By whichever method the surface accepts, which is why two quotes for the same order come back far apart. Printed card takes full CMYK on both faces so the front carries artwork while the back carries care copy. Custom earring cards with logo print in process color alongside Pantone spot colors with no limit on gradients.
Velvet and leatherette take no printed ink under any process we run. A logo on a velvet earring box arrives as hot foil stamping, embossing or debossing instead.
Custom earring packaging artwork reaches us as vector PDF or AI on our dieline with 3 mm bleed. Brands without a dieline of their own start from our die cut boxes product.
What Sits Inside The Box Under The Pair?
A foam pad with two slits punched 18 to 22 mm apart holds a pair of posts upright. A drop needs a hook bar instead because the earring hangs rather than stands on the pad. We cut both parts loose for brands filling a box they already hold, which is settled under jewelry box inserts.
A pendant sold beside the pair needs a coil channel rather than a pad, which our necklace and pendant boxes product covers. An earring gift box for a bridal line runs wrapped rigid with a ribbon pull and a foiled lid. Buyers ordering a whole range at once will find the same materials under jewelry packaging.
