Which Bottle Sizes Do Perfume Boxes Have to Fit?
Retail fragrance sits on a small set of standard volumes. The usual range runs 10 ml, 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml, which convert to 0.33, 1, 1.7 and 3.4 fluid ounces. Travel sprays at 5 ml sit below that range and gift sets combine several of those bottles at once.
Volume alone does not size a box because two 50 ml bottles from different molds can differ by twenty millimeters in height. We always work from the measured bottle rather than from the fill volume printed on it.
Rigid or Folding Carton for Perfume Packaging?
| Format | Material | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Rigid two piece box | 1.5 to 2 mm grayboard, wrapped | Luxury lines and gift presentation |
| Large presentation box | 2.5 to 3 mm grayboard | Multi bottle sets and heavy bottles |
| Folding carton | 350 to 400 GSM, 0.42 to 0.55 mm | Retail shelves and everyday lines |
| Sleeve over a tray | 300 to 350 GSM sleeve | Brands that change artwork often |
Rigid boxes are wrapped by hand around a cut board shell rather than folded from a single sheet. Board suppliers publish grayboard from roughly 1 mm up to 4 mm and most small luxury fragrance boxes use 1.5 to 2 mm. Heavier bottles and multi bottle sets move up to 2.5 or 3 mm because the wall has to carry that weight without bowing.
A folding carton is not a lesser choice at all, because it costs less and ships flatter and prints beautifully.
What Holds the Bottle Inside a Perfume Box?
Four box insert types are standard in fragrance and no single one is the industry default. Die cut EVA foam gives the tightest fit and holds an odd shaped bottle exactly. Molded paper pulp suits brands that are moving away from plastics across their whole range. Fabric wrapped inserts in velvet or satin cost more and read as luxury immediately. A rigid paperboard tray wrapped in printed paper sits between those two on cost.
The insert has to be cut from the real bottle rather than from a drawing. Glass molds carry draft angles and seam lines that a technical sketch leaves out. Send us the actual bottle and we cut the insert to fit that shape.
Which Wrap Paper and Finish Suit a Fragrance Box?
A wrapped rigid box is two materials rather than one and the outer paper decides how it feels in the hand. We wrap most fragrance boxes in coated art paper between 128 and 157 GSM. Lighter stock tears on the corner fold and heavier stock bulks at the edge turn.
Texture is the other half of that decision and it changes the box more than color does. Foil stamping sits cleanly on every wrap we run because the die presses into a soft wall. Uncoated and textured stocks absorb ink and they pull a printed color darker than coated paper does. That shift belongs to CMYK printing rather than to any fault on press.
| Wrap stock | How it reads | Finish that suits it |
|---|---|---|
| 128 to 157 GSM coated art paper | Smooth and even | Foil stamping and spot UV |
| Soft touch laminated art paper | Warm and slightly grippy | Blind embossing and foil |
| Linen embossed stock | Ribbed and traditional | Foil stamping on the brand mark |
| Leather grain stock | Deep and tactile | Debossing rather than gloss |
How Does a Gift Set Box Differ From a Tester Pack?
Fragrance brands order two very different boxes and many of them order both in one season. A gift set box presents one full bottle with a companion item and it is built to be kept. A tester pack carries several small sprays and it is built to move volume at the counter.
The two differ in board and in structure and in lead time. Each one is a separate size and design and each one carries its own 100 box minimum.
| Question | Gift set box | Tester pack |
|---|---|---|
| What it holds | One full bottle with a companion item | Several 5 to 10 ml sprays or vials |
| Usual structure | Two piece rigid lid, or a magnetic closure | Sleeve over a tray, or a tuck end carton |
| Board | 2.5 to 3 mm grayboard, wrapped | 300 to 350 GSM folding carton |
| Insert | Foam bed or molded pulp cut per item | Die cut card cradle with one well per vial |
| Lead time | 10 to 12 business days | 8 to 10 business days |
Minimum Order, Lead Time, and Samples
- The minimum order is 100 boxes per size, so a three bottle range starts at 300 units
- Rigid and wrapped perfume boxes run 10 to 12 business days because they are built rather than folded
- A folding carton sleeve or tester pack runs 8 to 10 business days after you approve the dieline
- A plain sample takes 3 to 5 business days and a printed sample takes 7 to 10
- Price breaks land at 500 and 1,000 units on the same artwork
