Order a Free Sample Box

We send sample boxes free of charge so that you can feel the board in your hand before you commit to a full run. Conditions apply and they are not the same for every enquiry, so our team confirms what applies to yours before anything is produced.

Tell us what you are packing and which of the three samples below would answer your question. In a great many cases the box then goes out to you at no cost at all.

Three Ways to Sample

Each of the three answers a different question, so the right one depends on what you are still unsure about. Most buyers begin with the plain box and move up only when they need to see print and finish on their own artwork.

Plain white and kraft sample boxes with no printing on them

Plain Sample Box

An unprinted box with no finishes or add-ons on it, sent so that you can settle the structural questions first. You feel the board in your hand, check how cleanly it cuts and creases, and decide whether that thickness suits the weight of your product.

Four printed boxes from recent production, showing different finishes

Random Sample Box

A box that came off our recent production run, sent so that you can judge our work rather than our description of it. You see the printing, the lamination and the finishing on a box that already went through the same press yours will run on.

Pre-printed sample boxes carrying a customer's own artwork and colors

Pre-Print Sample

Your own artwork on your own board with your own finish, produced to your specification and for nobody else. It answers every question at once, and most buyers ask for it only after a plain sample has already settled the structure.

What the Conditions Depend On

There is no single rule for every enquiry, because a plain box and a printed box made to your own specification are not the same job. Three things decide what we are able to send you and on what terms it goes out.

Which sample you need

A plain box and a box printed with your own artwork are two very different pieces of work for us to produce.

The size and quantity you are planning

What you intend to order changes both what we are able to send you and the terms that come with it.

What you are packing inside it

Some products need a box made to your own specification before a sample can tell you anything useful at all.

What to Check When It Arrives

A sample is only worth requesting if you put your own product inside it once it lands on your desk. These are the four things that are worth five minutes of your time before you decide.

  • Does your product actually fit?Drop it into the box, close the flaps and shake it gently to see whether it slides around inside.
  • Does the board hold its shape?A carton that bows in the middle is telling you it needs a heavier board than the one you sampled.
  • Do the creases fold clean?Open and close the box several times, the way a customer or a packing line is going to open it.
  • Does the finish look right in your light?Matte and gloss read very differently under shop lighting than they do in a photograph on a screen.
