Should Macarons Stand on Edge or Lie Flat in the Box?
Stand them on edge for a long row of colors behind a window, and lay them flat when you need a shallow box. On edge each macaron takes only 22 mm of the row, while flat macarons show the top shell in a box only 32 mm deep. In both layouts the card insert decides whether your macaron shells arrive in one piece.
Which Insert and Window Keep Macaron Shells From Cracking?
A die cut card insert with one slot per row stops macarons from cracking, because each one leans on its neighbor and cannot slide. We cut each row slot 2 mm wider than the shell so the filling never scrapes the card.
The lid window uses 150 to 250 micron PET at least 6 mm from any fold. PET is a food safe film, but seat the macarons so their tops never rub against it. With the shells held still, the next question is which board can touch them.
