What Size Custom Cookie Boxes Fit Stacked and Large Cookies?
A stack of six 3 in cookies fits a box 82 by 82 by 70 mm inside, and other formats follow the same rule.
| Cookie format | Cookie size | Inside box size | Food contact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stack of 6 | 76 mm, 10 mm thick each | 82 x 82 x 70 mm | Dry, 176.180 |
| Dozen in 2 stacks | 76 mm, 10 mm thick each | 158 x 82 x 70 mm | Dry, 176.180 |
| One large cookie | 203 mm, 15 mm thick | 209 x 209 x 25 mm | Buttery, 176.170 |
| 4 iced cookies flat | 89 mm, 12 mm thick | 184 x 184 x 22 mm | Iced, 176.170 |
The 6 mm lets your fingers lift a cookie out and the 10 mm keeps the lid off icing and sprinkles. Once the size is set you can choose the style of personalized cookie boxes that carries it.
Which Box Styles Work for Cookie Sleeves and Cookie Gift Boxes?
A sleeve over a tray suits a stack of cookies, and a two piece lid and base gives you the look of a cookie tin. In 1.5 to 2 mm rigid grayboard that lid lifts off like a tin and keeps its shape.
A tuck end carton with a window costs the least and suits one large cookie sold on a counter. Cookies you ship go in an E flute mailer of about 1.6 mm that holds up when parcels stack. Macarons with filled shells need a row insert, so they belong in custom macaron boxes instead. Whichever style you pick, the board inside has to suit the cookie it touches.
Are Custom Cookie Boxes Safe for Direct Food Contact?
Yes, our cookie boxes run on food grade SBS that meets FDA food contact rules. Dry cookies such as gingersnaps and biscotti fall under 21 CFR 176.180, which covers paper in contact with dry food. Buttery shortbread and iced or dipped cookies fall under 21 CFR 176.170 for board touching fatty and moist foods.
An aqueous barrier on the inside face holds back butter and oil, and we never print the food side. The TAPPI kit test, known as TAPPI T 559, measures how well the board resists grease. With the board settled, the outside can show the cookies and carry your label.
Should Your Cookie Box Have a Window and a Label Panel?
A window helps you sell iced cookies, and packaging for cookies to sell at retail needs a label panel. On custom packaging boxes we close the window with 150 to 250 micron PET film at least 6 mm from any fold. Seat the cookies low enough in the box that the film never rests on soft icing.
The FDA Food Labeling Guide asks for a product name, net quantity, ingredients, allergens and the maker name and address. Bakeries that sell over their own counter are often exempt from these labeling rules. With the window and the panel planned, the order itself takes one short form.
