What Size Custom Candy Boxes Do You Need?
You size custom candy boxes from the candy or its bag plus 6 mm in length and width and 10 mm in height.
| Candy fill | Candy or tray size | Inside box size | Style |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 oz wrapped mints in a liner bag | 76 x 51 x 25 mm | 82 x 57 x 35 mm | Pillow or favor tuck box |
| 4 oz gummies in a sealed bag | 102 x 76 x 25 mm | 108 x 82 x 35 mm | Window tuck box |
| 9 soft caramels in a 3 x 3 divider | 81 x 81 x 15 mm | 87 x 87 x 25 mm | Rigid two piece gift box |
Once the size is set you need to know which food contact rule covers the candy inside.
Which Food Contact Rule Covers Hard Candy and Gummies?
Hard candy falls under 21 CFR 176.180 for dry food, and gummies fall under 21 CFR 176.170 for moist and fatty foods. Our candy boxes run on food grade SBS that meets FDA food contact rules in both cases.
Gummies and soft caramels hold moisture and butter, so a water based barrier coating on the inside face keeps them off the board. The food side is never printed, and a TAPPI kit test under TAPPI T 559 grades that coating for grease. With the food side settled you can choose the box style that carries the candy.
Which Box Styles Suit Candy Favors and a Custom Candy Gift Box?
Pillow boxes suit favors and window tuck boxes suit retail bags, while a rigid two piece box makes the best custom candy gift box. A window tuck box shows gummies through a PET film set at least 6 mm from every fold.
Rigid gift boxes use 1.5 to 2 mm grayboard with card dividers that keep each flavor in its own cell. Truffles and bars go in our chocolate packaging boxes with cavity inserts for 4, 9 or 16 pieces. After the style comes the print that carries your logo and your label details.
How Do You Add a Logo and Label to Personalized Candy Boxes?
You print the logo on the outside of personalized candy boxes in CMYK or Pantone and put the label details on one side panel. Hot foil, spot UV and embossing add finish to custom candy boxes with logo artwork.
If you sell the box packed at retail, that panel needs a product name, net quantity, ingredient list, allergen statement and the maker name and address. The FDA Food Labeling Guide explains each line, and our artwork guidelines show where the panel sits on the dieline. Once your artwork sits on the dieline you are ready to place a wholesale order.
