Why Does The Cufflink Face Never Give You A Box Depth?
The face is the flat decorative head while the post is the hinged bar that passes through the cuff. Depth follows the post because a cufflink rests face up in the cavity with everything else hanging below it.

Two pairs sharing an identical 18 mm face can still need different boxes because one carries a ball return and the other a bullet back. The whale back is the most common style in menswear and it sets the depth on most orders we quote.
Does The Toggle Ship Open Or Folded Flat?
A whale back toggle swivels, so it either lies flat along the post or stands out at a right angle to it. That single choice moves the required depth by 4 to 6 mm on the same pair.
Brands that photograph the toggle open then pack it folded get a cavity cut for the wrong position. Tell us which way the pair ships to us and we cut to that position. A cavity sized for a folded toggle will hold an open one only by forcing the lid, which crushes the hinge over a season in a warehouse.
How Far Apart Do The Two Cavities Sit?
A pair has to read as a set without the two faces touching each other. Center to center spacing therefore follows the face size rather than the box size.
