When Does the Nicotine Warning Move to the E-Cigarette Box?
The warning moves when the device or its package is too small to carry it with the required space. Section (d) of 21 CFR 1143.3 then puts it on the carton or outer wrapper, and the carton takes over as the principal display panel.
| Rule | What it means for the box |
|---|---|
| Exact text | WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical. |
| Area | At least 30 percent of each principal display panel |
| Type | At least 12 point, bold Helvetica or Arial or a similar sans serif |
| Color | Black on white or white on black, in contrast with everything else printed |
| Small device | Moves to the carton or outer wrapper, or a tag fixed to the package |
Every line in that table is a layout fact before it is a design choice. We place the warning area on the dieline first and build the brand panel around what is left. The full panel layout for a vape carton sits on our custom vape boxes page.
Does an E-Liquid Bottle Box Need to Be Child Resistant?
The bottle needs to be child resistant and the box does not. The Child Nicotine Poisoning Prevention Act requires every liquid nicotine container to meet the child resistant standard in 16 CFR 1700.15.
A printed carton cannot meet that standard for the bottle, because the test belongs to the closure that a child would open. The law also leaves out a sealed prefilled cartridge that goes straight into a device, when the nicotine inside cannot be reached in normal use.
So the carton job is fit and labeling rather than child resistance. We size an e-liquid box from the bottle with its cap on, which matters most on a kit that holds several parts.
Which Box Fits a Starter Kit With a Device and Pods?
A starter kit needs a cavity insert, because a device and two pods and a cable rattle loose in an open tray. Each cavity is cut to the part plus 1 to 2 mm, and the cable sits in a channel under the device.
Card inserts in 350 to 400 GSM board suit light kits, while foam inserts suit glass pods and heavier devices. A two piece box or a sleeve over a tray presents the kit on the shelf, while a tuck end carton is enough for pod refill packs. Our dieline generator builds any of these flat at your sizes.
Can E-Cigarette Boxes Ship Like Other Retail Boxes?
Empty boxes can and filled ones mostly cannot. The Postal Service has banned mailing e-cigarettes to consumers, and the ban covers devices that deliver nicotine or flavor or any other substance.
The remaining exceptions are narrow and need age verification at delivery. FedEx and UPS have also stopped consumer shipments of vapor products. We ship your empty printed boxes free across the United States, and moving the filled product is a decision your carrier makes.
